Building on the Approved School status, this level requires schools to sustain and further develop the practices established in the initial stage. Schools here demonstrate a commitment to improving wellbeing, maintaining high academic standards, and addressing targets from the Approved School assessment. It emphasizes collaboration, advocacy, and the sharing of best practices.
To become a WQM Champion School schools will need to focus their attention on demonstrating that they have addresses the targets identified during the Approved School visit.
New targets will be agreed during subsequent assessment visit to reflect current best practice in wellbeing and school improvement.
Champion school assessment is 1 day in duration and is preceded by anonymous electronic surveys of pupils, parents and staff that can be fed back on the visit.
They are designed to be developmental for all staff involved to build capacity and deepen thinking.
After 3 successful years attaining Wellbeing Champion status schools can apply for the pinnacle award of Beacon School status. Heads and Wellbeing leads of Champion Schools can become accredited Ambassadors for WQM should they wish to assess schools applying to become WQM schools.
